You’ll notice that Ms. Bean has her own seat now. Yep, she’s now official and it costs money to fly with her. But you know what? The freedom that seat gives her (and us) is almost worth it.
We did something this trip that made it different from the others—a little more special. My mom and I had talked every now and then about doing a “tour” of the places we used to live. We moved a lot when I was growing up, so there are a number of houses that have childhood memories for me and I kinda wanted to revisit them. We finally managed to do it this time. It was nostalgic and depressing at the same time because a fair number of the homes were no longer even there; just empty lots.
This is the first place my mom and I lived together. I barely remember it, but my mom has fond memories of it—save for the time her apartment was broken into while she and I were sleeping on the couch. Every time she tells that story, about some dude holding a gun to her and warning her not to open her eyes, it gives me chills.
